Strengthening Governance and Ecosystem Connectivity for Biodiversity Conservation and Improved Livelihoods in the Dja Landscape, Cameroon
Activity 1.2.5: “Facilitating the technical establishment and functioning of a grievance redress mechanism, the protection of community rights and compliance with human rights protocols.”
As part of the GEF-8 project, AIWO-CAN is currently implementing the activity related to the establishment of the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) in the South and East Regions of Cameroon. This activity aims to protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), while ensuring compliance with human rights protocols and guaranteeing a process that is gender-sensitive and responsive to the local context.
To this end, AIWO-CAN is organising the activity through several key steps: the launch meeting with institutions and stakeholders, the field mission for participatory diagnosis and mapping, the technical establishment of the mechanism, and the community- and landscape-level restitution and validation sessions. The team also ensures the compilation of results and internal debriefing to guarantee a participatory and effective implementation.
This activity makes the GRM operational, ensures the active participation of communities and landscape stakeholders, and lays the groundwork for inclusive governance and the lasting protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights within the broader GEF-8 project.
