Rehabilitation of a School and a Health Centre in Gouache, Bafoussam

This project aimed to improve access to quality essential social services, particularly education and healthcare, for the populations of Gouache, Bafoussam. It is consistent with AIWO-CAN’s approach to inclusive community development, human dignity and the strengthening of wellbeing for vulnerable populations.
Implemented by AIWO-CAN with the support of the Orange Foundation, the project addressed the advanced deterioration of local school and health infrastructures, which was directly affecting children’s learning conditions and the quality of patient care.
The interventions carried out focused on the rehabilitation and equipping of key infrastructures:
Gouache Public School:
• Rehabilitation of eight (08) classrooms, improving the safety, comfort and learning environment for pupils
• Construction of a block of four (04) latrines, contributing to better hygiene and school health conditions
Gouache Health Centre:
• Rehabilitation of the main building
• Construction of a patient reception shelter, enabling better patient management and flow
• Renovation of the on-call accommodation for the Head of Centre, strengthening the continuity and availability of health services
Through these achievements, the project brought about a significant improvement in teaching and care conditions, providing pupils, teachers, patients and health staff with safe, functional and fit-for-purpose infrastructures. The works also contributed to strengthening school attendance and access to basic healthcare within the community.
Through this project, AIWO-CAN demonstrated its capacity to implement concrete, high social impact actions in partnership with private sector actors, in service of sustainable local development and community wellbeing.
