Pillar 4 — Participation in Decision-Making
- In Central Africa, Indigenous women and girls face intersecting forms of discrimination linked to social norms, limited access to education, lack of legal recognition, and structural exclusion from decision-making. These challenges restrict their ability to exercise their rights, access public services, and participate fully in social and political life.
- AIWO-CAN addresses these barriers through community education, support for civil status and citizenship documentation, and advocacy for inclusive laws and policies. The organization strengthens Indigenous women’s leadership and representation in governance processes at local, national, and international levels, recognizing them as key actors in democratic decision-making, community development, and sustainable environmental management.
